Rental Assistance Program

How can it help?

The Rental Assistance Program is intended to aid individuals and families struggling with the effects of poverty who have been impacted by COVID-19. Qualifying households are eligible for a one-time payment to the landlord of 50 % of the past due rental amount, up to $400.00. A household must also have one person working at least 21 hours a week.

Through the Window

WHAT DO I NEED TO QUALIFY FOR THE PROGRAM?

  • One applicant per household

  • Eligible applicants must reside within Lackawanna County

  • Provide proof of annual household income for one year prior to the application date that includes the most recent paystub or the three most recent paychecks if employment circumstances have changed. Verification that at least one person (applicant) in the household works a minimum 21 hours/per week or a formal offer letter from a future employer documenting the expected hourly wage and proposed work hours will also be accepted as proof of employment.

  • An applicant’s household income must be at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (as noted below)

  • Valid photo ID

  • Copies of two of the most recent rent bills or past due notice

  • Landlord contact information and a copy of the lease, if one exists

  • A signed release that allows Scranton Lackawanna Human Development Agency, Inc. (SLHDA) to contact the landlord to verify the amount due

  • The deadline to apply is November 30, 2021 or until funding is depleted

  • Priority will be given to families with children under 13 years of age

  • Your application and supporting documentation must be complete in order to process your application.
